At the age of seven, Crystal Qi began her violin studies with her father. She started studying with Cyrus Forough at the age of 8 until present. Over the years, Crystal has received awards from competitions and has performed at various recitals. In the years of 2000-2007 she won first place in the Grandquist Geneva Competition. In 2003, 2005 and 2006, she received second prize in the Society of American Musicians Competition and played in the 2006 winners recital. Crystal also competed in the Stradivarius International Violin Competition in the year 2007 and got into the finals. The KSLTV station broadcasted Crystal playing the violin for being one of the contestants of the international competition. She attended Pilzen International Music Academy (camp) in Czech Republic and Bowdoin International Music camp that year. In 2007 she received 3rd place in the Music Festival in Honor of Confucius Competition. She was one of the finalists in the Chicago Symphony Youth Auditions in March of 2008 and played in the Chicago Symphony orchestra hall. She received an honorable mention from the MTNA High School Senior String Competition. Crystal was invited to play for 98.7 WFMT Introductions radio program. In 2009, she was a semi-finalist in the Schmidbauer International String Competition. Crystal is 16 years old and attends at William Fremd High School.
