Introductions

Meet Chicago's finest pre-college classical musicians.

Host Raja Burrows, Guitarist Molly May Manarchy, and Host Lisa Brownstone

Our first show on Introductions was a success!

Molly May Manarchy was a perfect first performer for Introductions, a pleasure to speak with and a privilege to hear perform. We'll post the audio of Molly's incredible performance right here...until then, check out her music video if you haven't already!

You won't find live radio much on the dial anymore...it's risky, a lot of hard work to pull off and sometimes even traumatic (for the producer, at least!). You don't know if a string will break or someone will freeze from nerves or if a herd of buffaloes will come running through the studio (fortunately, none of that has happened on this show).

But on WFMT you'll find several live performances a week, without any time delay (like they often have on "live" TV...of course we don't have to worry as much about "wardrobe malfunctions"). We're in the studio as we are: No fancy machines to butter up our voices or correct our mistakes. Our engineers set up the mics, the musicians warm up, the host-on-duty reads the final commercial and all of a sudden we're totally exposed to thousands of people...and it's nerve-wrecking and exhilarating all at the same time.

Listening to live radio, I think, conveys some of this exhilaration and excitement...and best of all, allows the audience the privilege of sharing in the act of artistic creation. Not all of our shows will be live for the simple reason that we can't fit an orchestra or a band in our studio, but a lot of them will be!
