Today we heard from Merit School of Music trombonist Jake Mezera who performed a very challenging program for solo trombone and trombone with piano. Jake has performed under the baton of Gustavo Dudamel and his trombone quartet the "Bone Rangers" has advanced to the semi-finals of the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition!
Biography:
Jake Mezera is 14 years old and has been studying with Timothy Riordan since he was 10 years old. Jake plays tenor trombone with the Merit trombone choir, the Merit symphony orchestra, the Southwest Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Merit wind ensemble, the Merit brass choir, and The Bone Rangers (Merit honors trombone quartet).
Jake has competed in the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition with The Bone Rangers in May where they advanced to the semi-finals. In addition, he has competed in solo competitions and has recently performed with the Chicago Brass Band. One experience Jake had that he will never forget is when he played principle trombone in the CYMI festival orchestra under the baton of Gustavo Dudamel. They played side-by-side with the Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra in Orchestra hall.
